BBC goes BCE over BC

BBC has stopped using the traditional B.C. (Before Christ) and A.D. (Anno Domini, or Year of the Lord) for dates and has replaced it with the increasingly popular B.C.E. (Before Common Era) and C.E. (Common Era).

The BBC said in an official statement that since it is “committed to impartiality, it is appropriate that we use terms that do not offend or alienate non-Christians.”

Proponents say that BCE and CE provide “a religiously neutral alternative to B.C./A.D.”, without having to rework all our dates, and still bases the system around the birth of Jesus. ┬áBut even though the terms are still centered around the birth of Jesus, a large (and very sensitive) group people have had their faith shaken.

I believe they are fearful that a hurricane will be sent to punish humanity for not using a Latin term for time-keeping. ┬áThere is also some debate over whether or not you can get into heaven if you say “CE” instead of “AD” once a year, which is as much as anyone who isn’t a history teacher ever says “AD”.
