About Religious Headgear

Niko Alm wanted to be able to wear religious headgear in his drivers license photo, just like members of any other faith are allowed to wear their head-coverings. It took him a few years, including a requirement by authorities that he be checked by a doctor to see if he is “mentally fit”.

Niko’s religious headgear is a pasta strainer. That makes sense because he is a member of the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

The Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is a light-hearted US-based faith whose members call themselves Pastafarians. The group originated as a protest when the Kansas School Board ruled that Intelligent Design should be taught in schools.

The Pastafarians say on their site that “by design, the only dogma allowed in the Church of the Flying Spaghetti Monster is the rejection of dogma.”
