Prejean: No work, No crown

Associated Press:  “This was a decision based solely on contract violations, including Ms. Prejean’s unwillingness to make appearances on behalf of the Miss California USA organization,” the California pageant’s executive director, Keith Lewis, said in a statement.

He had complained at a news conference last month that Prejean was skipping Miss California USA events while speaking out against gay marriage at unsanctioned appearances.

TMZ:  Donald Trump, the pageant’s owner, tells TMZ he OK’d the firing because Prejean failed to fulfill her contractual duties as Miss California — refusing to appear at around 30 events — and because she treated her official handlers “like s–t.”

Fox News:  “This was a decision based solely on contract violations,” Keith Lewis, executive director of K2 Productions, said in the release. “After our press conference in New York we had hoped we would be able to forge a better working relationship. However, since that time it has become abundantly clear that Carrie has no desire to fulfill her obligations under our contract and work together.”

I told Carrie she needed to get back to work and honor her contract with the Miss California Organization and I gave her the opportunity to do so,” Trump said in the same release. “Unfortunately it just doesn’t look like it is going to happen and I offered Keith my full support in making this decision.”

“They don’t agree with the stance that I took [on Proposition 8],” she told the entertainment news site. “They don’t like me. From day one they wanted me out and they got what they wanted.”

They got what they wanted because you didn’t show up for work.  They tried to stand by you – but when they gave you an inch you took a mile.  These are grown-ups, kiddo….and there is a line of girls who will take your job – happily.   Welcome to adulthood.

If I was hoping to be a spokesman for the NRA and speak to/for the entire industry of gun makers, distributors, and consumers – then making statements about how assault rifles should be banned, that might cause me to lose favor by the people that industry.  If I’m trying to be a spokesman for the Miss America company and the whole “Hollywood” modeling/acting/clothing designer/hair-makeup thing – then blasting gay people might not be very fruitful.

Between jer and that “such as” girl, this is why everyone thinks Miss America contestants are idiots.  Even people that agree with her understand that she was not helping her career with these statements.  She was a friggin’ hero for Republicans yesterday.  Today, she’s just another narcissistic kid who didn’t want to go to work.  Tomorrow, no one knows her name.

Was it worth it?  She lost the very thing she had worked to achieve. Not just that, but she lost it on a topic that is clearly moving in the other direction.  State after state is granting marriage rights and even many Republican leaders are now starting to progress.  Guliani, McCain, Bloomberg, Gov Huntsman, McCain campaign manager Schmidt, etc.  Even GOP presidential candidate McCain spoke out against gay-marriage bans on the Senate floor in 2004.
