More Nascar sponsor changes

More sponsor changes…beating.

Stewart, as we all know is leaving Joe Gibbs Racing to be an owner at newly formed Stewart-Haas Racing.  It looks like he’s taking Ryan Newman with him.  So both these guys will have new numbers…but what about new sponsors?  New colors?  Yup.

Stewart will stay with a Depot, but not the Home Depot.  He’ll be sponsored by Office Depot, which is currently sponsoring the #99 of Carl Edwards (Old Spice will also sponsor Tony).  UPS is dumping Michael Waltrip’s team and the rumor is that want to get on board with the great Clint Bowyer at Richard Childress Racing.  But UPS is a big boy – they’re not interested in sharing.  So what about Jack Daniel’s?  They are rumored to go to…Ryan Newman.

The advantage for Clint having a new sponsor is to get out of NASCAR’s incredibly unbelievably stupid rule that the alchohol sponsors can be on the big toy cars ($65) but not the small ones ($6).

The disadvantage is that this will take Clint’s #07 from the coolest looking car on the track to the ugliest (brown & yellow…yuk).  It also means that Clint is probably going to continue the long beaten to death “race the truck” commercials (UPS – put that bit to rest!  You’re like a 6 year old telling the same joke 7,000 times!).

This is all in the rumor mill right now.  UPS has also looked at Carl Edwards, Martin Truex Jr., and Ryan Newman.  Aflac looks like they want to sponsor Edwards, in place of Office Depot

The numbers belong to NASCAR, so presumably Bowyer will not drive the 07 car – NASCAR will likely allow Jack to take the number with them and issue a new one to Bowyer.
