Arkansas says: No more toddler weddings

Anyone, of any age could get married in Arkansas.  Funny, but not surprising?  To be fair, this was a mistake on the part of the law makers (but still very funny!).

What they meant was that you need to be 18, 16 if you’re not pregnant.  Now, if you’re knocked up and you’re 16, you’d don’t need parental consent – you’re clearly an established maker of excellent choices and parental consent is completely unnecessary.  Kids getting married at 16 – is this the law in most states?

Yup – this is the law in most states (if not all of them)!  In some states it requires not just parental consent, but a judge must also provide consent.  But in Mississippi…props to Mississippi (yup, I said it)!  To get married in Mississippi without parental consent, you need to be 21 years old!  Great idea!

Hypothetical: would you rather see your kid able to drink at 18 and marry at 21…or marry at 18 and drink at 21?

Obviously the issue here is that bible thumpers want to get around the ‘no sex before marriage’ rule, so they allow kids as young as 15 years old to get married.
